Why This Map Exists

Building code adoption varies by state and jurisdiction.

This map provides a quick reference showing which building code is currently adopted in each state, along with the primary reference standards associated with the adopted International Building Code.

Some states, including California, New York, and Florida, use customized building codes that are derived from and based on the International Building Code, with state-specific amendments and modifications.

This document is provided for informational and reference purposes only and is not intended to replace professional judgment, official code publications, or verification with the applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Building codes are adopted at the state and local level and may be amended, modified, or superseded at any time. The user is responsible for verifying all applicable codes, standards, and requirements with the governing jurisdiction prior to design, analysis, or construction.
